After our release of Callback in 2016 Casey and I were eager to crank out our next album. In 2017 he recorded a song he'd named So Be It (singing as well as playing all the guitar parts). By 2018 HuH had a nifty video on youtube for the song (which we later renamed The Ride)—a video with dozens of views! Big success!
No sooner had I put the video on youtube than Casey began sending me a bunch of new songs: the six other (non-Underlying Theme) songs you hear here, in fact. So I spent the next ~2 years arranging & rearranging them; adding stuff, removing stuff, and working up the courage to sing in some of them.
As for lyrics, for all but Casey's The Ride I drew from the wealth of poetry left behind by our late brother, Daniel. Most of the material is dark and deep, as was Daniel.

Most of the visuals used in So It Is/ The Ride video came from various locales visited during our 2012-2014 stay in Europe. My favorite highlights are a sailboat after midnight, in the Gulf of Finland, and a cute little redhead who seems to be wondering just how to approach the Fisketorvet Indkørelse escalator, which her Daddy seems to be brilliantly negotiating. Backwards.
As for the album's Roof Dogs visual theme like the last HuH album, this one started with a goofy, wannabe Picasso
BUT... wisely, I ditched the idea shortly before release. The material in this album, from Daniel's personal, serious thoughts, deserved better. I decided this pair of aloof, roofbound retrievers were somehow a fitting metaphor.
Something about the two just fit.
And the story of these guys? Mirna & I'd stopped at a garage sale one Saturday, and these dogs were just chilling. On the roof. Homeowner was all, "they do that all the time..."
